Travel insurance helps against quarantine
WARWICK, R.I., Oct. 27 (UPI) –
Travel alerts by the U.S. government warn of quarantining arriving passengers in China or Cuba who exhibit fever or flu-like symptoms, a travel expert said.
Jim Grace, president and chief executive officer of InsureMyTrip.com, says most insurance companies provide quarantine coverage because of H1N1 flu but details vary by company and plan.
Some companies provide quarantine benefits only if you are sick while others provide benefits if you are not sick but singled out because you were traveling with or near to someone who is ill.
Quarantined travelers stand to lose a lot unless they’re properly insured,
Grace says in a statement. The time you spend in quarantine means time lost enjoying your trip, unused hotel reservations, missed pre-paid planned activities and possibly a future one-way ticket home. Travel insurance protects your financial investment so you don’t pay for an itinerary you can’t follow as planned.

Spain reels as cash-strapped tourists stay away
by Daniel Silva TORREMOLINOS, Spain (AFP) –
Spain is feeling the pinch of a drop in visitors, especially from Britain, its main source of tourists, as the recession leads northern European sunseekers to take their holidays at home this year or choose cheaper beach destinations like Egypt or Turkey.
The drop in the pound to near parity with the euro has fueled the decline in the number of British tourists, who account for one-quarter of all visitors to Spain, as it has made spending a few days in the sun at Mediterranean resorts like Torremolinos, Benidorm and Ibiza more expensive.
Usually during the height of the summer tourist season the main beach at Torremolinos on Spain’s Costa del Sol is packed with sunseekers.
But despite the clear skies and soaring temperatures, row after row of sun beds this year lie empty.
Above the beach, business at the bars, restaurants and…

Hawaian beach tops 10 best list
MIAMI, May 23 (UPI) –
Dr. Beach,
a professor at Florida International University, has identified a 2-mile strip of palm-fringed sand in Hawaii as the best U.S. beach.
Stephen Leatherman, director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research, put Hanalei Bay in Kauai at the top of his 2009 Top 10 list. Leatherman, in a news release, said he considers 50 criteria when he puts the list together, as he has every year since 1991.
Hawaii, Florida and New York each had two beaches on the list. While Leatherman called Hanalei his favorite Hawaiian getaway,
he put Hamoa Beach on Maui at No. 5.
Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Fla., came in second and Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne was ninth. Both New York beaches are on the eastern tip of Long Island: Coopers Beach in Southhampton in third place and Main Beach in East Hampton in sixth.
Also listed were Coronado Beach in San Diego; Cape Hatteras on the Outer Banks of North Carolina; Coast Guard Beach on Cape Cod, Ma…

Alicante – the Most Famous Gateway to Costa Blanca
Alicante is maybe best called the gateway to Costa Blanca, famed more for its airfield than for its more familiar neighbors like, Benidorm and Denia. Most visitors to Alicante use the town as an arrival and exit point, not stopping long enough to see what the area has to really offer.

Alicante offers a more sophisticated break in Costa Blanca. The beaches and coastal attractions remain consistent in the area, but the area is a touch more laid back than it’s loud neighbor. Alicante has moved upmarket recently with a multitude of exclusive cafes and bars turning up round the commercial port areas. The boulevard meanders nicely past the pier and beachfront area which turns into the charming Old Quarter.
From an agreeable base in Alicante, Costa Blanca offers much to…

5 Ways to Save Money on a Cruise Vacation
1. A cruise vacation can give a great, one price, holiday.
One of the main attractions to booking a cruise vacation is that almost everything is included in the cost. When many of us think about a cruise vacation, they picture an intrepid traveler in a roach infested hotel room eating rancid sandwiches and riding around on the town bus. However, one of the finest strategies to save cash on a cruise is also one of the most sumptuous and most stirring of cruise vacation.
2. Cheap Accommodations
As well as a cheap place to stay, a cruise also offers unlimited food, including many superb smorgasboards that are open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
In addition, many of the foods you’ll find on cruise ships are often better then the best land locked cafes, and once again, the food is in…

30 pct of airlines may defer plane deliveries
SINGAPORE (AFP) –
Nearly 30 percent of airlines worldwide are likely to defer aircraft deliveries as financing conditions deteriorate, a survey by Swiss banking giant UBS said.
Only half of the airlines polled have secured financing for aircraft deliveries this year and in early 2010, according to the survey obtained from industry sources at the weekend.
The survey released this month covered small and large airlines worldwide, including nearly a third of operators with more than 100 aircraft on their fleet.
“Consistent with our prior survey (released in January), nearly one-third of respondents are likely to defer the delivery of aircraft currently on order,” UBS said.
“Nearly all of our respondents are due to take new aircraft deliveries over the next 12-18 months with only half indicating that they have secured financing,” it added.
“Overall, financing looks …

Las Vegas Vacation Packages
LAS VEGAS, Nv., Apr. 16 (TOTI) –
Now is the time to look for low-cost Vegas vacation packages. Las Vegas is hurting because of the economy. That means major hotels are willing to discount rooms in order to lure gamblers to Sin City. Combined with cheap airline tickets, now could be the time to consider traveling to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada.
It’s not just the budget hotels that are willing to wheel and deal, either. We’re talking such luxurious hotel and casinos as Bellagio and the Monte Carlo are also competing on price in order to lure travelers. And don’t forget once you’re at one of these swank hotels, you can always try to negotiate for an upgraded suite.

It’s nice to be in the driver’s seat when it comes to vacationing in Las…

Las Vegas lures students with beer pong
LAS VEGAS, April 11 (UPI) –
Las Vegas has been advertising itself as a spring break destination for older collegians with beer pong
competitions and shot girls
bearing free drinks.
MGM Mirage’s promotion also featured $59 hotel rooms and free pizza, The Washington Times reports.
Las Vegas has lost a lot of business in the economic downturn. For students, however, the resort is a cheaper alternative to foreign trips.
Financially, I didn’t think that I could afford to spend $1,200 or $1,500 on a trip to Mexico like everyone else was doing,
said Lauren Yelichek, a junior at Kent State.
Yelichek said five nights at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino set her back $425, and she ended up in a suite because the hotel had so many empty rooms.
Bill Kalogeras, a junior at the College of Las Vegas and ambulance driver, said he has noticed more of his fellow students coming as tourists. He said Las Vegas, a day’s drive from California, has also become an …
