SAN FRANCISCO, May 31 (UPI) –

Albert Pujols belted a pair of solo homers Saturday to boost the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-2 win over the San Francisco Giants.

Pujols’ first homer drew St. Louis within 2-1 leading off the top of the fourth inning. The second, his 16th this season, capped the scoring with one out in the ninth.

Skip Schumaker had three hits and two RBI. Chris Duncan drove in a run and, like Pujols and Yadier Molina, had two hits in the Cardinals’ eighth win in their last 11 games.

Winner Chris Carpenter (3-0) gave up two earned runs and six hits in six innings with a walk and five strikeouts.

San Francisco’s Juan Uribe and Bengie Molina had one RBI each. Uribe had two of the seven hits for the Giants, whose four-game winning streak ended.

Losing pitcher Barry Zito (1-6) surrendered three earned runs and 10 hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.
