Wikipedia bans Scientology edits
LONDON, May 31 (UPI) –
Church of Scientology members may not use their computers to edit the church’s entry on Wikipedia, officials with the online information source said.
Wikipedia’s arbitration committee has concluded the ban is necessary, following complaints that many Scientologists have been using the online encyclopedia to distribute propaganda, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.
The committee had previously decided to lock in posts about the church, following conflicts among users who support or oppose Scientology, the British newspaper said.
Newcomers (to the site) are treated rudely,
the arbitration committee concluded. Bad faith assumptions, personal attacks, edit wars, soapboxing, and other disruptions are common occurrences.

At least $8.5M in jewelry stolen in Paris
PARIS, May 31 (UPI) –
An armed thief made off with at least $8.5 million in jewelry after a daring daylight robbery in Paris Saturday, police said.
Authorities told CNN the thief held people at gunpoint inside the high-end Chopard store before getting away with jewelry estimated to be worth between $8.5 million and $14 million.
From the first elements we have, it would be a man who’s around 50 years old, who was wearing a suit and a Borsalino-style hat, who, like any client, walked inside the jewelry store, held up employees with a handgun, was then given items displayed in the window,
police investigator Olivier Lebon told CNN’s Paris affiliate BFM-TV.
The store posted a sign after the robbery saying it was closed.

Texas trims automatic college admissions
AUSTIN, Texas, May 31 (UPI) –
The Texas Legislature has voted to cut guaranteed state university admissions for students who graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school classes.
The decade-old program was designed to promote diversity on state college campuses but school officials pushed for cutting back on the number of guaranteed admissions because they said the program limited their ability to accept other students, The New York Times reported Saturday.
Last year, 81 percent of students admitted to the University of Texas, Austin, were let in under the 10 percent rule. The school had tried for years to get the Legislature to change the program because it allowed them very little flexibility in putting classes together each school year and threatened the continuation of some departments considered important that were not popular with students who gained automatic admission, the newspaper said.
The Texas Senate gave final approval Saturday to a new cap of 75 perce…

Calif. march for same-sex marriage
FRESNO, Calif., May 31 (UPI) –
An estimated 3,000 people gathered Saturday at City Hall in Fresno, Calif., to demonstrate for same-sex marriage rights, police said.
Five days after the California Supreme Court upheld the legality of Proposition 8 — which stripped same-sex couples of the right to marry in the state — activists campaigned in the state’s conservative Central Valley to try to reverse Proposition 8, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The rally in Fresno followed a 14.5 mile march from Selma, Calif. Organizers said the town was chosen as a focal point of the demonstration to draw a parallel with the 1960s civil rights movement, which featured historic marches in Selma, Ala., the newspaper said.
Celebrities including Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron and Emmy-winning actor Eric McCormack participated in the demonstration. McCormack, a heterosexual actor who gay lawyer Will Truman on the NBC comedy Will & Grace,
said characters such as the one he played …

Nadya Suleman – Octomom Coming To Reality TV
LOS ANGELES, Ca., May 30 (TOTI) –
We can file this one in the “it was only a matter of time” compartment. Despite denying such a deal was in the offing for months, reps for Octomom Nadya Suleman have now announced she will be doing a reality TV show.
“[Nadya and the producers] are hoping to have an arrangement whereby several events in the children’s lives would be filmed in a documentary series,” Suleman’s attorney Jeff Czech told Us.
The deal came after weeks of negotiations between Suleman, Czech, and multiple media companies who were interested in airing her amazing story of multiple birth.
Czech revealed that a company known as Eyeworks was moving ahead with the deal and that the show would be a “quasi reality” show, presumably featuring Nadya Suleman and her octuplets.
“They might be sever…
